KOZHIKODE: K M Shaji MLA appeared before the vigilance for interrogation for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. He reached the vigilance office at Thondayadu around 10 am. He was issued a notice to appear for questioning yesterday.
An amount of Rs 47,35,500 was seized in a raid conducted at his house in Azheekode two days ago. The report on it was submitted to the Kozhikode Vigilance Special Court. He was asked to appear for questioning following it. 77 documents related to land and financial transactions seized from his house will be submitted to the court. 500 grams of gold and foreign currency seized from his house have been returned to Shaji. This was because it was not enough to say that it was illegal savings. The vigilance will be examining transactions and overseas travel from 2011 to 2020.
However, Shaji claimed to have documents for the money seized. Shaji had alleged that the chief minister is deliberately trying to trap him. The raid was carried out at the houses of Maloorkunnu in Kozhikode and Azhikode in Kannur after the vigilance court registered a case of illegal acquisition of property worth Rs 1.47 crore.
