Karipur gold smuggling: Three persons arrested

KONDOTTY: Three more persons were arrested in the Karipur gold smuggling case. The arrested have been identified as Odamunda Jaisal (28), Kolapadan Muhammad Nizam, and Konnoth Riyas (28). They were arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Kondotty DySP Ashraf.

All three were involved in the case of abducting a Palakkad native in connection with the smuggling that took place at the Karipur airport on June 21 and beating him up at a lodge in Manjeri. The group of three, who have been named accused in several assault cases, were arrested at Vazhikkadavu on the Malappuram district border while trying to move to a hideout in Tamil Nadu. There are cases against them for trying to kidnap and kill a young man from Kannur and for trying to kill a police officer. There are about 10 cases against them for illegal sand smuggling at various stations.

During the arrest, gold transaction documents and deadly weapons were recovered from them. Police also conducted inspections at their homes. The documents received are being examined by the police. The arrested Riyas is the leader of the Koduvally gang.
