Renowned filmmaker K P Kumaran honoured with J C Daniel Award

Renowned filmmaker K Kumaran has won the J C Daniel Award, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema, for his overall contribution to the Malayalam film industry. He was selected by a jury chaired by singer P Jayachandran. The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a plaque. It will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 3.

Kumaran has gifted Malayalees numerous great films like ‘Akasha Gopuram’, ‘Athithi’ and ‘Rugmini’. Kumaranashan's biographical film ‘Gramavrikshathile Kuyil’, directed by Kumaran, was released this year. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director for his movie ‘Rugmini’ in 1988. He has also won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam.

Last time, the J C Daniel Award was presented by playback singer P Jayachandran. A committee, chaired by J C Daniel Award winner Adoor Gopalakrishnan, comprising of actor and director Renji Panicker, actress Seema, former Chalachithra Academy chairman Kamal, cultural department principal secretary Rani George IAS, had then selected the awardee.
