TEHRAN: The Iranian government expressed gratitude to India for participating in the official funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a long note shared with pictures, Iran expressed its gratitude for India's solidarity. The Iranian embassy in Tehran called it a "strong expression of mutual respect."
India's participation reflects the historical and cultural ties between the two countries. The heartfelt respect of friendship and compassion will never be forgotten. We express our sincere gratitude for attending the funeral of our martyred leader and paying tributes,” the Iranian embassy said in a statement.
A high-level Indian delegation comprising Bihar Governor Lt. Gen (retd) Syed Atta Hasnain, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, other government officials and various religious leaders arrived in Tehran on Friday. Congress leader Salman Khurshid, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Sikh-Hindu-Muslim-Christian religious leaders also paid tribute to the Iranian Supreme Leader.
