CAIRO: Four were killed, and 88 people were injured in a collision between two trains in Egypt. The accident occurred this evening when a train travelling between Giza and Faiyum struck the rear of another train that was en route from Cairo to Aswan. The incident took place in the Al-Ayyat area of the Giza Governorate, located on the outskirts of Cairo. The impact caused one of the trains to derail.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health confirmed that 88 people sustained injuries. Rescue teams arrived at the scene following reports of the accident. The Egyptian Railway Authority stated that operations have begun to clear the wreckage and restore rail traffic.
The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals. Further details regarding the cause of the accident have not yet emerged. In September last year, a collision between two freight trains in the same area resulted in injuries to a loco pilot and his assistant.
