Road quality row escalates in Delhi: Minister Parvesh Verma slaps man filming inspection

NEW DELHI: Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma slapped a man who was recording a road inspection in the Tilak Nagar area. A video of the incident shows the Minister knocking the man's mobile phone away before slapping him. The man was identified as Sahib Singh, who is associated with the social media activities of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh.

The incident took place during an inspection of road construction work. Jarnail Singh questioned the quality of the road and pulled up a portion of the road surface with his hands, alleging that the work was of poor quality. He told the minister that such a road should not be constructed and would not last even 15 hours.

The MLA then approached Minister Parvesh carrying a piece of the road surface that he had removed. It was during the ensuing exchange that Sahib Singh, who was recording the proceedings, was slapped by the minister.

Sahib Singh said he had filed a complaint against Verma and that further action would depend on the police. The Minister, however, said that the people accompanying the MLA had abused him and his family and behaved improperly. He said he reacted in the heat of the moment. The claims made by both sides about the events leading up to the incident could not be independently verified.
