CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a youth hacked his girlfriend and her mother to death after they opposed his relationship with her. The incident took place on Tuesday morning near Palladam in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. The deceased have been identified as Dhanalakshmi (42), a native of Pachapalayam, and her daughter Poovarasi (22). Poovarasi was working at a mechanic shop in the area. Police said Akshay (27), a native of Pattiveerambatti in Dindigul, was behind the killings. Akshay, who was studying in Coimbatore, had been in a relationship with Poovarasi for the past four years. The two had reportedly met through social media.

However, Poovarasi's family opposed the relationship, leading to frequent arguments between the couple. On Tuesday morning, Akshay reached Poovarasi's house and got into an argument with her mother, Dhanalakshmi. During the argument, he allegedly attacked Poovarasi and her mother with a sickle. Both suffered serious injuries and died at the spot, police said.

Palladam police reached the scene after being alerted and shifted the bodies to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police arrested Akshay and produced him before a court. He has been remanded in judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
