KOZHIKODE: The police have confirmed that the incident in which a youth was found dead inside his house in Palayam is a murder. The victim has been identified as Biju of Puthiya Kovilakam in Palayam.
Investigators said Biju suffered deep cut injuries causing severe blood loss. He was murdered using a weapon. Police Commissioner Shoukath Ali said some hints have obtained in the case and a detailed probe is underway.
Biju's body was found in a pool of blood around 3 am today in a single-room house near the Palayam vegetable market. His mother, Baby, who went to wake him up to milk the cow, found the body first. Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police.
Biju and his family lived in a densely populated area in a single room house near the Palayam market. As Biju's father had gone to Coimbatore, only Biju and his mother were at home. Biju usually slept in a separate single-room structure near the cowshed outside the main house. His mother was in a shock as she had served him dinner last night around 10:30 pm and was devastated to find him dead the next morning.
Biju's mother said the room was locked from outside when she came to wake him up in the morning. Biju had multiple cut wounds on his body, with a deep injury to his neck. The family alleged that the murder was an act of revenge by a drug mafia. Biju had shared information with the police about drug-related activities in the area as part of Operation Thoofan, leading to hostility against him.
A forensic team and the dog squad examined the spot. After the inquest, the body was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College for post-mortem. The police have intensified the investigation by collecting CCTV footage and examining evidence with multiple investigation teams.
