Three arrested for attacking police officer with syringe

KOZHIKODE: Three people have been arrested in the incident of attacking a police officer with a syringe and needle during night patrol at Mananchira Square. The Town Police arrested Rajath (38), Benny Lloyd (48), and Nandakumar (25). The investigation is continuing to trace an accomplice of the accused.

Two people fled when a jeep of the Town Police approached a group of six people seen suspiciously at Mananchira Square last night. When the police were questioning the remaining people, they then attacked the officers. During the confrontation, K Adarsh, a civil police officer from the Malappuram MSP Camp and belonging to Vadakara, was stabbed in his right hand with a syringe. The suspects then fled the scene. The injured police officer was admitted to a hospital. His injuries are not serious.

As the police intensified their investigation to track down the suspects, three people were arrested in the early hours of today. Since two members of the six-member group had initially fled, a case has been registered against the four people who were present at the spot when the incident occurred. Police said only one more person need to be arrested again.

The police suspect that the accused have close ties with drug gangs, and the investigation is proceeding accordingly. Police believe the suspects may have been carrying syringes and needles to use drugs. Further questioning of the accused is expected to provide clarity on this matter.
