Youth bites finger of cop investigating complaint of harassment against women

KOCHI: The Ernakulam North police have arrested a youth for attacking officers when they came to take him into custody. Justin Kurian (28) of Thankamani in Idukki has been arrested. He attacked the police officers who came to investigate a complaint of harassment against women.

The incident happened at Kaloor Junction Friday morning at around 1.30 am. Following information of harassing four women, Fort Kochi inspector K C Ratheesh and his team, who were on duty in the Ernakulam West Sub-Division, reached the spot. On seeing the police team, Justin hurled abuses at the cops and kicked them when they tried to take him into custody. Meanwhile, the youth bit the inspector’s thumb and index fingers, causing injuries.

A case has been registered against Justin under sections including violence against women, obstructing police officers on duty and causing bodily harm. As the police suspected the accused under the influence of drugs, he was subjected to a medical examination at the Ernakulam General Hospital.
