THIRUVALLA: A 35-year-old man died after falling into a well at his friend’s house in Eraviperoor on Sunday, with police suspecting that a scuffle between a group of friends after drinking may have led to the incident. Jewel, son of John Varghese and Lizzy, died in the incident at the house of his neighbour and friend Jojo, 34, of Chirayil, around 11am.

Jojo told police that he too had fallen into the well along with Jewel and, despite sustaining injuries in the fall, managed to climb out. However, another friend who was with the two men is reportedly missing.

Police suspect that Jewel and Jojo may have fallen into the well during a physical altercation between the friends after they consumed alcohol. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established.

Police said further questioning of Jojo is required to clarify what happened. The Fire and Rescue Services personnel recovered Jewel’s body from the well and shifted it to the mortuary of the taluk hospital.
The Thiruvalla police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
