Body of Kottayam native who went missing in tunnel collapse in Sikkim recovered

GANGTOK: The body of Kottayam native Aneesh Mohan (43), who went missing in the landslide in a tunnel under construction in Sikkim, has been recovered. The body was found around 11 pm last night. Reports say the body will be brought to Kerala today itself after completing other procedures including postmortem. Steps required for it have been started.

Aneesh’s wife Sangeetha, brother-in-law Sanal and brother Bineesh Mohan had reached the accident spot in Sikkim the other day. The search was extremely difficult due to poor weather conditions and signal issues. Aneesh, was a geologist and senior manager in National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and has been serving for 16 years. Aneesh, who was in Haryana with his family was transferred to Sikkim as unit manager seven months ago. His wife and children then returned to Kerala. Aneesh is a family member of Kooroth Parambil in Pampady, Vellore, Poothakuzhy.

Aneesh, a science writer and vlogger, completed his BSc Geology from Nattakom Government College in 2001-04. He joined the electric power corporation of Haryana in 2011. He later got a job in NHPC. He has been serving as a senior manager in Sikkim since 2026. His elderly parents are at home in Vellore. Karthiyani and Aarav are his children.
