THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has once again refused to renew the party membership of Bineesh Kodiyeri. This is the fourth time the CPM state leadership has rejected his application for membership renewal.

Bineesh had been a party member from 2001 to 2020. However, his membership was frozen after he was arrested in a drug-related case in 2020. He was later acquitted in the case in 2023. Following his acquittal, Bineesh applied four times for renewal of his membership through the district secretary, but the state leadership rejected all four requests.

During the Thiruvananthapuram district committee meeting held to discuss the party’s election defeat, some members reportedly questioned why Bineesh was still not being considered for membership despite being cleared by the court.

At the time of Bineesh’s arrest in 2020, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was serving as CPM state secretary. Following the controversy, he had stepped aside from the post for a period. Responding to questions about why Bineesh has not been taken back into the party, CPM state secretary MV Govindan said the matter could be considered, and a decision would be taken after further discussion.
