PALAKKAD: An Anganwadi employee, who was undergoing treatment for Dengue fever, has died. The dead is Geetha (45) of Chittur Perumatti. She died while undergoing treatment at Chittur Taluk Hospital.
Six people have died of dengue fever in Palakkad this year alone. Four died in June. The state had confirmed 75 cases of dengue fever yesterday. Dengue fever is a viral disease spread by Aedes mosquitoes. People of all ages can be affected by the disease.
The main symptoms are fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, pain in joints and muscles, fatigue, red spots on the skin, stomach pain, and vomiting. In the case of a strong monsoon season, mosquito source destruction activities should be intensified. Health activists said mosquitoes should not be allowed to grow in stagnant water in and around homes. Indoor plants including money plants and grasses in the home environment are a cause of mosquito breeding.
The water in the pots should be changed once a week or the plants should be transplanted into soil. Stagnant water should be avoided on the terrace paths, waste materials in the home environment, and containers. The environment should be kept clean to prevent infectious diseases.
