Heavy rains to continue in Kerala; IMD urges public to remain cautious

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that very heavy rainfall will continue across Kerala and urged people to remain vigilant. An Orange Alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Monday (August 3), where very heavy rainfall is expected. A Yellow Alert is in effect for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall on Tuesday (August 4) in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, where a Yellow Alert has been issued. The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and advised people to take necessary precautions.

People living in landslide-, mudslide- and flash flood-prone areas have been advised to move to safer locations if directed by authorities. People residing along riverbanks and in downstream areas of dams have also been urged to relocate if instructed by officials due to the risk of flooding.

Yellow Alert

03/08/2026: Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
