THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After introducing free bus travel for women passengers, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has made another major announcement. A new KSRTC bus service to Velankanni, one of the famous pilgrimage centres in South India, will begin on Friday.
The new Superfast service will operate between Thiruvananthapuram and Velankanni. The affordable ticket fare is expected to make the service attractive to passengers. While private operators charge between Rs 800 and Rs 2,499 for different types of services on this route, KSRTC will offer the journey at a fare of Rs 538.
The KSRTC service will operate from Thiruvananthapuram on Fridays and Saturdays. The bus will depart at 4.30 pm. Return services will operate on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 pm. The Neyyattinkara depot has been given the responsibility of managing the service. The route will pass through Thiruvananthapuram, Pappanamcode, Neyyattinkara, Parassala, Kaliakkavilai, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur.
Currently, KSRTC operates a Velankanni bus only from Changanassery in southern Kerala. A Super Deluxe bus runs on this route, with a ticket fare of Rs 890. Online booking for the new Thiruvananthapuram-Velankanni service has started through the official KSRTC website.
