PATHANAMTHITTA: Sharp criticism was raised against CPM state secretary MV Govindan during the party's Adoor Area Committee meeting. Some members mocked his press conferences, comparing them to the meaningless song 'Cham Chacha Chom Chacha' from a Jayan movie. Several members also demanded that Pinarayi Vijayan should be removed from the post of Opposition Leader as a model corrective step after the election defeat.

Members at the meeting alleged that some community leaders in Adoor had accepted money after promising votes for the LDF, and demanded an investigation into the matter. They also criticised the CPI, saying the party did very little in the constituency. According to the discussion, negative votes against Chittayam Gopakumar were one of the reasons for the defeat. Members said CPI’s only contribution was fielding Priji Kannan, whom they described as a soft-faced candidate.

"Neither the one who wrote the song 'Cham Chacha Chom Chacha,' nor the one who composed it, the one who sang it, or the one who heard it, knows what it actually means. M.V. Govindan's press conferences are exactly like that. It is unacceptable that Pinarayi Vijayan was made the Opposition Leader even after a massive defeat. Pinarayi should be replaced to set an example," demanded the committee members.

Meanwhile, the CPM Central Committee meeting has begun in Delhi. The three-day meeting will discuss the party’s defeat in Kerala. Earlier, the Politburo had directed the Kerala state unit to prepare a detailed review report, and the state leadership is expected to present its preliminary assessment during the meeting.

Several Politburo members had reportedly opposed the state committee’s decision to appoint Pinarayi Vijayan as Opposition Leader during an online PB meeting. Similar objections are expected to be raised in the Central Committee as well. However, M V Govindan clarified in Delhi that there would be no change in the Opposition Leader post and said the decision was taken with the approval of the Politburo.
