KOZHIKODE/KOCHI: Several schools across Kerala have declared a holiday for Monday in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup final, citing the late-night kickoff and potential student fatigue.
In Kozhikode, the management of the three Bhavans schools confirmed they will remain closed, stating the decision was made to allow students and their families to watch the final match together.
Similarly, the Gregorian Public School in Maradu, Kochi, has opted to grant a holiday. School authorities noted the decision was made to ensure that students do not arrive at school sleep-deprived or anxious after watching the match, which is scheduled to commence at 12:30 a.m. IST on Monday.
Susan Barrid, the principal of Gregorian Public School, cited the student body’s strong interest in the sport and the school's involvement in inter-school football competitions as key factors.
"The holiday is intended to prevent students from being exhausted or concerned about the next day's classes," school officials explained. Given that the match could extend into the early hours of Monday morning if it proceeds to extra time or a penalty shootout, the administration determined that a holiday would be the most practical approach.
Following these announcements, several other private institutions across the state have also opted to declare Monday a holiday.
