Lodge in Thrissur where she delivered

THRISSUR: A woman and her newborn baby died after giving birth in a lodge. The dead is Jyothi (30) of Edamuttam in Thrissur. The pregnant woman took a room in the lodge on June 27 at 2.30 pm.

When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered this afternoon, the lodge employees informed the police. The police and the fire force arrived, broke open the door and found the two lying dead. The initial conclusion of the police is that the woman and the baby may have died soon after delivery.

An auto driver of Pavaratty had accompanied her when she took the room. The East police have taken him into custody. He told police that he knows her. He said that he helped her to get a room in the lodge and that he called her today but she didn’t pick up the phone. He also said that he bought medicine for her when she complained of stomach ache the other day and that he doesn’t know anything else.
