KOZHIKODE: A team led by the District Supply Officer raided an illegal cooking gas refilling centre operating in Omassery and seized a large number of LPG cylinders and equipment. The illegal unit was functioning in the Thechyad area. During the raid, officials recovered a total of 91 cylinders along with five motors used for transferring gas from one cylinder to another. The inspection was carried out based on a confidential tip-off, which exposed major irregularities at the centre.

Among the seized items were 29 domestic LPG cylinders, 31 commercial cylinders, and two small cylinders. Officials also found another 29 cylinders hidden inside a nearby house.

According to authorities, gas was being illegally transferred from subsidised domestic cylinders to non-subsidised commercial cylinders using motor-powered equipment. Officials said strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for illegally storing cooking gas and carrying out unlawful gas refilling operations. Supply Department officials also stated that similar inspections will continue in other parts of the district.
