PALAKKAD: 17 bovines were killed by a speeding train in Palakkad Meenkara on Saturday morning. The cows, which had been left to graze, were crossing the tracks when a speeding train hit and splintered them into shreds.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the cows were walking on the tracks when the train hit them. The impact of the speed resulted in bodies being scattered on the accident site. No information has been received about the owner of the cows.

It was dawn, and the train was speeding on this route. The loco pilot saw the danger ahead and pressed the horn multiple times to alarm the bovines. A speed break was also applied to bring the vehicle to a stop, but the damage was already done.
