Vellayambalam-Vazhuthacaud road traffic woes to continue for another three months

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vellayambalam-Vazhuthacaud (C.V. Raman Pillai) road is one of the busiest routes in the capital city. However, with repeated renovation works to connect the road with Manaveeyam Veedhi, traffic congestion has spiked while small accidents have also turned into a daily scenario. The traffic jam has worsened after the road construction and manhole construction started.

Vehicles going from Vellayambalam to Vazhuthacaud are now made to travel on the same road without any separation. Due to the narrow width, this 1 km road tests the patience of drivers who need to survive the traffic congestion, scorching heat, roaming dust particles and the insufferable honking. On Tuesday, a VSSC bus got stuck in one of the holes near the divider adding to the already confounded traffic woes.

The bus, which was travelling in a single lane, took a left turn near the DGP office when the front wheel of the bus fell into the ditch. It later took a mechanic from a workshop to move the bus away, giving clearance to the traffic.

Even commuters are facing difficulty walking down the street. Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA) office, DGP office, Tagore Theatre, and Chinmaya School are located in this area which ensures a swelling of vehicles during prime hours.

Manhole work started on the 15th of this month. The cost is Rs 77 crore. The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) is supervising the construction. Along with this, the manhole is being worked on where it turns from Althara to Manaveeyam Veedhi.
