KANNUR: Authorities stated that air hostess Surabhi Khatun had received special training to smuggle one kilo of gold by concealing it in her rectum. The authorities came to this conclusion as an untrained person cannot conceal so much gold in the rectum. Reportedly, there was no abnormality in Surabhi’s walk or behaviour.
Earlier, some reports had claimed that certain groups were providing special training to people, including women, to hide gold in their rectum. The body will try to expel the foreign material. Special training is given in order to control this for hours.
Surabhi, a native of Kolkata, was caught by the Revenue Intelligence after receiving information that she was smuggling gold in the form of a paste. Police suspect that Surabhi has connections with the gold smuggling gangs in Kerala. They expect to get more information by questioning her. Surabhi, who has been remanded for 14 days, is currently in Kannur Women’s Jail.
Surabhi was the air hostess on an Air India flight from Muscat to Kannur. Air hostesses have been arrested for gold smuggling before, but this is the first case in India where an air hostess has been caught for trying to smuggle gold by holding it in her rectum, said the DRA.
