NEW DELHI: A Malayali was among those who died in an accident in flooded basement of the building where the Civil Service Academy is functioning in Delhi where heavy rains continue. It has been confirmed that Naveen Dalvin, a native of Ernakulam, died in the accident. Three people including a girl died in the accident.
Meanwhile, a fierce student protest is taking place in Delhi regarding the tragedy, alleging negligence on the part of the authorities. Police stopped the students from marching towards the coaching centre. There was an altercation between the police and the students.
The accident occurred in the basement of the building where the Civil Service Academy is functioning in Delhi where heavy rains continue. Fourteen people trapped in the basement were rescued. The National Disaster Response Force and the Delhi Fire Force led the rescue operation.
Water entered the building of Rao IAS Study Circle in West Delhi's Rajendra Nagar yesterday evening. The accident happened to the students sitting in the library in the basement. It is believed that the students who rushed to get out of the building fell into the water.
It has been raining heavily in Delhi for two days. Therefore, the whole area of the building is flooded. Delhi Minister Atishi Marlena has ordered an inquiry into the incident and submit a report.
