'Using MDMA to escape insomnia'; serial actress Shamnath confesses to police

KOLLAM: Serial actress Shamnath confessed to using MDMA and reasoned the addiction as an escape from insomnia. Kollam Ozhukupara native Shamnath alias Parvathy was arrested on Saturday by Paravur police after getting a tipoff. Shamnath bought the banned substances from Nawaz, a native of Kadakkal.

Police are dubious about more such drug-using gangs existing within the serial industry. The police are investigating whether Shamnath is involved in a group that distributes chemical drugs to those in the film-serial industry.

In a search conducted at the actress's residence. police found 1.94 grams of MDMA stored in six envelopes inside the table. The police have also registered a case against supplier Nawaz.

Shamnath, who hails from Vakkom, has been living in Ozhukupara for a long time with her family. The actress has been battling depression and was often using drugs for the past three months.
