CHENNAI: Nine died in Tamil Nadu, as Burevi cyclone lashed in different parts of the state. In Kanchipuram, girls died by drowning in the river. In Cuddalore, 50,000 persons are lodged in relief camps. About 20,000 homes were waterlogged. Districts along the banks of Kaveri witnessed heavy damage in the cyclonic winds.

Heavy rains are going on in many parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. The cyclonic storm is currently anchored in Gulf on Mannar as a low-pressure belt. It has been continuing in the same spot for the last 24 hours. As of now, the low-pressure belt’s wind speed is between 45-55km per hour and in certain areas, it could spike to 65 km. The intensity of the low-pressure belt could further reduce in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has said that there are possibilities for isolated high-intensity rains in Kerala. Orange alerts have been declared in Idukki and Malappuram. A yellow alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Kollam districts. The ban on fishing will continue. In the Kerala coast, winds could lash at a speed ranging between 30-45kms.
