CJP warns Centre over FIRs against NEET protesters, demands withdrawal of cases

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned the central government against filing cases across the country against students who protested over the NEET examination irregularities. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das alleged that registering cases after the withdrawal of the protest led by the party over the question paper leak was a violation of the government's assurance. Saurav made the allegations at a press conference along with senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal.

He alleged that police action against protesters was higher in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar, where BJP-NDA governments are in power. He said filing cases against protesters in these states violated the government's assurance that no cases would be registered against students in Delhi or outside.

"Not keeping the promises made to students is a betrayal of their trust. FIRs filed against students should be withdrawn and those taken into custody should be released. Otherwise, we will be forced to launch another protest," Saurav said.

He also said legal assistance would be provided to all those who participated in the protest across the country. The CJP has launched a website named 'Sakshi' to collect evidence of alleged police action. Protest-related videos and photos can be uploaded on the platform. The party said the evidence would be preserved securely using cryptographic fingerprints.

Meanwhile, the Central government said it would examine the allegations that students were being targeted through police cases. Government sources said FIRs related to the student protests would be withdrawn except in cases involving incidents of violence.

No immediate plans to form political party

The CJP leadership has indicated that it has no immediate plans to form a political party. The group said it would continue to raise student and youth-related issues beyond political lines. The organisation is also considering intervening in the question paper leak issue reported in Punjab. Leaders said plans are underway to set up units in colleges across the country.
