Delhi University issues safety advisory to students taking part in demonstrations

NEW DELHI: Delhi University has directed students and teachers to refrain from the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar. The university has warned that participating in illegal gatherings and protests will lead to legal action and will adversely affect the academic and professional future of students.

This advice is contained in an advisory issued to those associated with the university. The university pointed out that there are strict restrictions on protests and demonstrations as per the Supreme Court directives.

‘Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action. Such activities can also pose serious risks to students’ personal safety and significantly impact their academic progress and professional opportunities. Accordingly, all students are urged to stay away from Jantar Mantar and to prioritise their safety and compliance with the law. Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of fake and misleading content is being created and circulated to fuel the situation.

Meantime, the Cockroach Party has called for nationwide protests against the police atrocities during the protests. The protest that began at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 20 is continuing strongly. The protest led by social activist Sonam Wangchuk in support of the protest ended yesterday. Cockroach Party founder Abhijeet Dipke said he was relieved that Wangchuk had ended his fast and that the protest would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
