Malayali student dies after bus plunges off flyover in Punjab

KOTTAYAM: A student from Kottayam died tragically after the tourist bus she was travelling on plunged off a flyover in Punjab. The victim is Josna George (22), daughter of George (a retired police officer) from ‘Korakkallayil’ in Poozhikol, Kaduthuruthy. She was a second-year MBA (Logistics) student at Lovely Professional University in Punjab.

The accident occurred as she was returning with friends after a trip to Kullu-Manali. The bus veered onto the service road near Ludhiana, Punjab, early yesterday morning. It is doubted that the driver might have fallen asleep at the wheels.

The group included six students. Josna, seated by the window at the rear of the bus, was thrown out by the impact of the crash, and the bus subsequently overturned onto her. Her body was recovered using a crane. The other three fatalities were the driver, the conductor, and another passenger. 17 people were injured in the accident.

Following the post-mortem, Josna's body has been moved to the Christian Medical College in Ludhiana. Upon learning of the accident, Josna's father and other relatives set out for Punjab.
