Two law students arrested for allegedly harassing woman, trying to drag her into car

NEW DELHI: Two first-year law students of Delhi University have been arrested for allegedly harassing a woman and her friend and trying to drag them into a car. The arrested students have been identified as Abhimanyu and Abhinav. Police have intensified the search for the third accused, Naman. The woman is a first-year postgraduate student at Hindu College.

The incident took place around 9.30 pm on Wednesday. The woman was walking with her friend near Mukherjee Nagar after visiting a park in Vijay Nagar when a group arrived in a Tata Safari and allegedly made obscene remarks at them, according to the complaint.

When the woman and her friend questioned the remarks, the group allegedly abused them and followed them in the car. The woman alleged that when she and her friend tried to record the incident on their phones, the group approached them and attempted to drag them into the car. The group fled the spot after the woman's friend took out his phone, she alleged.

Following the incident, the woman and her friend went to Maurice Nagar police station to file a complaint. However, they were allegedly told that the area where the incident took place did not come under the station's jurisdiction and were directed to approach another police station.

In a video shared on social media, the woman alleged that she and her friend went to three police stations but police did not initially register an FIR.

Later, the Mukherjee Nagar police registered a case based on the woman's complaint. During the investigation, police traced the car's registration number and gathered further details. Naman Anil Kumar, who was driving the car, has been named as the third accused. Police are continuing their search for him. Police are also examining CCTV footage and other evidence to gather more details about the incident.
