'We cannot let this go on like this, exams should shift to computer-based testing’; SC tells Centre

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has strongly criticized the central government on the failures related to the NEET exam. The court, which made it clear that they cannot let this go on like this, reminded that it takes exam controversies very seriously. A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe considered the pleas.

The court asked the center to put an end to the series of mistakes related to the NEET exam. The court informed that it will monitor the matter very closely. The bench said that it will ensure that the examination process is completely transparent and orderly. The court sought an explanation from the center about making the exams completely computer-based. The court also directed to submit information on how data security will be ensured if it is made computer-based.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the government is trying its best to resolve the problems of students. He also requested more time to present a comprehensive view on the matter before the court. The case was then adjourned to July 27.

Meantime, reports say that a discussion was held in the cabinet meet convened here today to bring strict legal amendments to prevent question paper leaks. The government aims to impose harsher punishment and a hefty fine than the current one for those who commit organized fraud. The move is to make amendments to the Public Examination Act, which was passed in 2024.
