Gang unleash violence during Onam celebration in Thiruvananthapuram; probe ongoing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A criminal gang unleashed violence during Onam celebrations in the capital city on Thursday.

The attack took place during the Onam celebrations organised by the Kailathukonam LPS Junction community. Four people were injured in the incident. One is said to be in critical condition.

The attack took place at around 8 pm last night. A group of four tried to create issues during the Onam celebrations. The committee members had to alleviate tensions, and the gang left the place. However, around 11 pm, a group of around 40 people returned and unleashed widespread violence in the area.

The gang destroyed nine bikes and two cars. It is reported that two houses were damaged in the attack. Locals allege the role of the local drug mafia behind the attack. Mangalapuram police launched an investigation into the incident. Two people have been taken into custody. Police said that the investigation has been intensified for the others.
