Genitals crushed by police during interrogation; Kollam District Police Complaints Authority to investigate

KOLLAM: The Kollam district police complaints authority was handed over the case of a youngster suffering injuries to his genitals in an alleged police torture.

The Pathanamthitta District Police Complaints Authority recorded the statement of the victim, Abhijith (23) of Vallivila Vadakethil, Adoor Peringanadu. The investigation was handed over to the Kollam District Police Complaints Authority because the complaint was against the officers of the Sasthamkotta Police Station in the Kollam Rural Police limits.

The police are adamant that the youth's allegations are baseless. The officers explain that the Adoor police had earlier recorded Abhijith's statement in the complaint and that he is now saying things that contradict it.

The incident took place on May 29. The Sasthamkotta police had registered a case against Abhijith's brother Abhishek for assaulting and impregnating a 15-year-old girl he met on Instagram. In this case, a police team arrived in a Maruti Swift car at around 7 pm to take Abhishek into custody. When they saw Abhijith talking to a friend near his house, they asked him about his brother's whereabouts, forced him into the vehicle, and beat him up. After taking Abhishek into custody, they dropped Abhijith off near his house around 11 pm.
