THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a reshuffle of the Union Cabinet and the BJP national organisational structure on the horizon, the party's Kerala state unit is anticipating key appointments and increased representation.
The expectations follow a string of notable electoral performances by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, including securing three MLAs in the recent Assembly elections and winning administration in various local bodies, including the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Currently, Suresh Gopi is the sole representative from Kerala in the Union Council of Ministers, following the resignation of former Minister George Kurian. Among the frontrunners for a ministerial berth or a key central role is Rajya Sabha MP Sadanandan Master. Additionally, there are currently no governors hailing from the BJP leadership in Kerala, further fueling hopes for new gubernatorial or national appointments.
At present, A.P. Abdullakutty and Anil Antony are the only leaders from Kerala holding official positions in the party's national organisational structure. If the central leadership decides to relieve existing representatives from their national organisational duties, former state president K. Surendran and state general secretary Anoop Antony are considered the most likely candidates to be elevated to national roles.
Alongside the organisational revamp, the BJP central leadership has directed the state unit to initiate efforts to strengthen its organisational framework and deepen social engagement. As part of this directive, the party has launched an initiative titled 'Mission 2029'.
Under this project, training programs and orientation classes will be conducted to educate leaders from the constituency level upward on party ideologies and effective intervention in social issues. District-level camps and study classes are scheduled to be completed by July 20. Party leaders Anoop Antony, Kummanam Rajasekharan, and K. Soman have been given the official charge of executing these training programs across the state.
