JALANDHAR: A case was registered against a doctor after his wife, another doctor, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Meenakshi (37), a doctor at Kapurthala Civil Hospital, was found dead at her home in Jalandhar on Wednesday. Meenakshi's father had filed a police complaint alleging that her husband, Dr Piyush Sood, had been physically and mentally harassing her. Meenakshi discovered that Piyush was having an affair with another woman, and this had led to constant quarrels between the two. The father's complaint also alleges that Piyush had taken a loan of Rs 2.5 crore in her name without Meenakshi's knowledge. The police then filed a case against Piyush for abetment to suicide.

It was Meenakshi who gave Piyush a loan of Rs 35 lakh to start a hospital. Meenakshi herself repaid this loan. In 2023, Meenakshi discovered that Piyush was having an affair with another woman. Meenakshi also got a private video related to this. With this, Piyush started physically abusing her. Piyush would often call Meenakshi's mother and confess that he was harming her daughter. The families tried to negotiate, but to no avail. In 2025, Piyush tried to strangle Meenakshi to death.

Meenakshi had called the police helpline and sought help. After the incident, the two lived separately. Recently, Meenakshi decided to buy a house of her own. When she approached the bank for a loan, she came to know that her husband had taken a loan of Rs 2.5 crore in her name. Meenakshi asked Piyush about this, which led to a quarrel. After this, Meenakshi came under severe mental stress. Meenakshi’s father handed over the private footage of Piyush with another woman to the police. The police said that they do not know whether it was suicide or murder, and the reason will be clear only after the postmortem.

Piyush's phone is now switched off. Police said that the investigation has been intensified.
