Advocate Fathima Thahiliya is UDF’s deputy mayoral candidate of Kozhikode Corporation

KOZHIKODE: Advocate Fathima Thahiliya is contesting as the mayoral candidate in the Kozhikode Corporation. She is youth league state secretary and former leader of Haritha, a girl students wing of MSF. She contested from Kuttichira in Kozhikode Corporation and won with a good lead. She defeated V P Rahiyanath, INL candidate of the LDF.


UDF's S V Muhammed Shameel Thangal is contesting as corporation’s opposition leader. Kavitha Arun is contesting as the standing committee chairperson and P Zakir is contesting as the council party leader. Meantime, the party is in the process of making CPM area committee member O Sadashivan as the mayor candidate of Kozhikode Corporation. The decision was taken at the CPM district committee meeting held yesterday. It was also decided to field Dr S Jayashree as the deputy mayor candidate.


This time, in the 76-member council in Kozhikode Corporation, the LDF has 35 seats, UDF 28, and NDA 13. No one has an absolute majority. Kozhikode Corporation has been ruled by the LDF for more than four decades. The last time, the LDF had 50 seats, UDF 18, and NDA seven.
