Vilayil Faseela, celebrated Mappilapattu singer, dies at 63

KOZHIKODE: Famed Mappilapattu singer Vilayil Faseela passed away in Kozhikode on Sunday. She suffered a heart attack in her residence in Velliparambu which led to her death. Faseela was 63.

The late 80s were marked as her heydays in the field of folklore singing. Faseela collaborated with V M Kutty several times and awed the audience with enchanting singing. In her later years, she would marry V M Kutty and convert to Islam. Faseela was previously known as Vilayil Valsala. V M Kutty passsed away in 2021.

She is also a recipient of Kerala Mappila kala academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She also rendered her voice to mainstream movies including Mailanchi and 1921.
