Dejected by cyber attack, young woman commits suicide; case registered against former friend for abetting suicide

KOTTAYAM: Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the former friend of a woman who committed suicide after getting dejected by a cyber attack. The police registered the case against Arun Vidyadharan, the former friend of Kothanalloor native Athira. Athira was found dead at her home today morning.

Athira is the sister-in-law of a Malayali IAS officer in Manipur. Arun Vidyadharan, who was Athira's friend, had conducted a cyber-attack against her through Facebook.

Athira had recently abandoned her friendship with him. When Arun came to know that Athira was getting marriage proposals, he continuously abused her through social media. He even posted her pictures on Facebook. Following this, Athira lodged a complaint with the police. Later, she was found to have committed suicide inside the house. Arun Vidyadharan is currently on the run.
