Public campaign comes to end, conflict in Karunagappalli; CR Mahesh MLA injured

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The one-and-a-half-month-long public campaigns for the Lok Sabha elections have come to an end in the state. A minor conflict broke out between UDF and LDF workers during the high-spirited finale of the public campaign in Karunagappalli, Kollam. CR Mahesh MLA sustained an injury during the conflict. He then sought treatment at the Taluk Hospital. The police resorted to lathi-charge against the activists. Four policemen, including the CI, were injured in the clash.

The public campaigns for the election in all 20 constituencies have come to an end. A 'silence period' or pre-election silence will be observed for the coming hours. Polling will start at 7 am on Friday. The activists of various parties organised various programmes, including Chenda Melam, for the finale of the public campaign. The excitement of the candidates and activists reached sky-high during the final lap of the campaigns.

During the final lap of the campaigns, minor clashes occurred among LDF, UDF and BJP workers at various places in the state. The public campaigns ended at 6 pm. The candidates and front workers now have hours of silent campaigning ahead of them.
