MUMBAI: Former Indian Cricketer S Sreesanth opened up about his rift with current Indian team head coach and former teammate Gautam Gambhir. Sreesanth revealed the verbal altercation during the Legends League Cricket in December 2023.
“Gambhir smashed my first ball since he very well knew my style. He is a very good cricketer. I don't know about his coaching. But he is a good cricketer. So I threw the bouncer the second time. Do you know who he responded to the delivery?
Gambhir used expletives and called me a fixer. Then I went ahead and asked him if he was okay. Since I had a good build that time, it looked as if I was going to physically overpower him. However, Gambhir looked to me and called me again a fixer and a traitor,” said Sreesanth.
Gambhir and Sreesanth were teammates in India's 2007 T20 World Cup squad and 2011 ODI World Cup squad. However, the relationship between the two later soured. Sreesanth had said in an interview that Indian cricket does not need a traditional coach and needs a mentor like MS Dhoni. Sreesanth had also said that he was not satisfied with the way Gambhir was coaching the Test team.
