RIYADH: Two Malayalees, who were in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, died in a fatal road accident. The victims are Rehna (52), the wife of Abdul Latif, a native of Kuttippuram, Naduvattom in Malappuram, and her daughter, Dr Nahla Narmin (29).
The family reached Mecca by road from Qatar for the Umrah pilgrimage. They are on their way back after completing the Umrah when the vehicle they travelled in met with an accident on the express highway from Taif to Riyadh. A plastic sheet flying from the road landed on the front glass of the Land Cruiser car they were travelling in, obscuring the driver's vision. With this, the vehicle lost control and overturned several times on the road.
Abdul Latif, his two daughters and his grandson, who were in the vehicle, escaped with injuries, while the bodies of Rehna and Nahla are being kept at the Dallah Central Hospital morgue. It is reported that the bodies will be buried in Saudi Arabia. Abdul Latif, an expatriate, is an employee of the Qatar Petrochemical Company.
