CHENNAI: The Chennai-Bengaluru high-speed rail line, projected to cover 306 km in just 1.15 hours, will not take much longer to become a reality. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) started initial steps to prepare the design. The line will be constructed so that bullet trains can run at speeds of up to 350 km. The high-speed corridors from Bengaluru to Chennai and Hyderabad were announced in the last Union Budget.
In Karnataka alone, 1358.96 acres will have to be acquired for the expressway. Initial steps related to the survey have been started there, as well as in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. (The route, which will start near the Baiyappanahalli SMVT Terminal, will reach Chennai Central via Whitefield, Hoskote, Kolar, Chittoor, Paranthur and Poonamalli. Chennai's second airport is expected to come up in Parandur. There will be three underground stations on the route. The 14.7 km section passing through the Chittoor Mogili pass will also be underground. The total length of the tunnel to be constructed is 34.6 km.
