THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of one of the fishermen who went missing after their boat capsized in Muthalapozhi has been found. The body of Freemon of Anchuthengu was found at Kannanthara, 20 km from Muthalapozhi. The body will be immediately shifted to the medical college for postmortem.
Two fishermen went missing in the accident that occurred when the boat carrying four fishermen was hit by strong waves and capsized from the Muthalapozhi estuary at around 8:30 pm on Friday. The authorities were informed immediately, but the rescue operation was delayed until noon. The rescue operations were hampered by poor lighting and heavy rain at night. However, as the authorities continued to be indifferent even after dawn, locals and family members laid siege to the coastal police station.
A navy helicopter reached the area at around 2 pm and intensified the search. Coast Guard and Coastal Police boats were active in the rescue operations. Freemon’s body was found when the search, which ended last night, resumed this morning. The search for Shijin, who went missing along with Freemon, is ongoing.
