Transportation disrupted for hours after elephant, calf killed after being hit by train in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: A wild elephant and its calf were killed after being hit by a train in Walayar. The accident happened Thursday morning at 12.30 at Chavadipara Puthupathy. The two were hit by the Mangaluru-Chennai Superfast train. Following the accident, train services were disrupted for hours.

The accident happened on the Tamil Nadu area of the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Both elephants were trapped under the train's engine. Although efforts were taken to remove the bodies of the elephants for hours, it did not yield any results. Finally, the Walayar police and forest department officials reached the spot and took charge of easing the traffic flow.
