ALAPPUZHA: Action has been taken against two scanning centres in Alappuzha for not detecting the deformity of the unborn baby. Both the centres have been sealed by the health department. The officials locked and sealed centres including the scanning machines.
According to the law, scanning records are required to be kept for two years, but the investigation found that none of the records were kept by the institutions. The licenses of both the firms have been cancelled. A team of experts from the health department conducted an inspection on the instructions of Health Minister Veena George and found that the records were not kept. Further action will be taken after submitting a report on the incident.
A team led by Alappuzha DySP Madhu Babu is investigating the case. The police had the other day said that they will examine the CCTV footage of the labs where the scanning was done. The baby's father was directed to produce scanning reports and other medical records.
The baby, born to Anish and Surumi of Lajanath Ward on November 8, suffers from multiple congenital disabilities, including misaligned ears and eyes, a non-functional mouth and curved limbs. Anish alleges that despite repeated scans, doctors did not detect or report any abnormalities during the pregnancy.
The parents expressed doubts about the authenticity of the reports, questioning whether they were prepared accurately by the lab. The police and medical teams are working to uncover the truth and ensure the child receives appropriate medical care.
