THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family of self-styled godman Neyyattinkara Gopan, has demanded a death certificate. However, the Neyyattinkara Municipality has informed that they cannot issue a death certificate for the time being as the police are still investigating the mystery surrounding his death. The family initially said Gopan did not die but attained samadhi.

Gopan's younger son Rajasenan approached the Neyyattinkara Municipality the other day with an application for the death certificate. However, the application for a death certificate was not accepted by the municipality authorities as the investigation into the mystery is not yet over. The municipality authorities informed that a decision regarding this would be taken after the police report was received.

The Kerala High Court had sought Gopan's death certificate while considering the case filed by the family. However, the family was of the stand that Gopan did not die, at that time. The cause of death is still unclear. The cause will be clear only when the results of the chemical tests of the internal organs are available. Following the controversy, the body was taken out of the samadhi, a postmortem was conducted and then laid to rest.

Gopan's postmortem report said he had two heart valve blocks and had wounds on his legs due to diabetes. The report said internal examination results will clarify whether the illnesses were the cause of death.
