PEERMADE: A special tehsildar was caught by the vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 for land registration. Yousuf Rawthar (55), of Thadathel House in Erumeli's Alappra, was arrested from Peermade land assignment special tahsildar.
An application was made to the Peermade land assignment office for a title deed of two acres of land owned by a woman from Upputhara. The place was inspected by a team of officials. The special tahsildar said that the land was worth Rs 1 lakh per cent and that he wants a bribe of at least Rs 50,000. The complainant said that she would pay five thousand rupees. The officer who refused it replied to call him when the money is ready. They then approached Vigilance SP VG Vinod Kumar. Following the instructions of the Vigilance, the complainant approached the special tahsildar again. She was then asked to pay Rs 20,000 as fees and a bribe of Rs 10,000. According to the vigilance instructions, the complainant went to the office of the special tahsildar at the Civil Station on Monday afternoon and handed over the money. Meanwhile, the vigilance team reached the spot and arrested the special tahsildar. The arrest was made under the leadership of Vigilance DySP VR Ravikumar, inspectors Rijo P Joseph, J Rajeev and Vinesh Kumar.
