PATHANAMTHITTA: A sexual abuse complaint filed by a 13-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta has been found to be fabricated, according to the police, who say it was allegedly motivated by anger following a breakup with a classmate.

The Class 9 student had alleged during a counselling session at her school that she had been sexually assaulted by several classmates, including a boy she was reportedly in a relationship with. Based on her statement, a complaint was forwarded to the police through the Child Helpline.

Police registered two cases under the POCSO Act based on her allegations, which claimed that the abuse had taken place both at her home and at school.

Following the complaint, six people, including four juveniles, were taken into custody. However, medical examination reportedly found no evidence of sexual abuse. During detailed questioning, police also found inconsistencies in the girl's statements.

The six individuals were released from custody on Friday evening after the investigation failed to substantiate the allegations.

According to the police, the girl had ended her relationship with a classmate around two weeks ago, and investigators suspect the complaint was made out of resentment following the breakup.

Police said they will continue investigating the circumstances that led to the alleged false complaint.
