KOCHI: With no takers for the tender to place advertisements on the back of tickets, KSRTC initiated tender proceedings for the "Bus as a Whole" scheme, which allows for advertising across the entire bus. Advertisements can be displayed on 5,733 buses, comprising 1,226 Fast services, 622 Super Class buses, and 475 Premium Class buses.

The scheme also includes provisions for advertising on the backside of tickets. The initiative aims to offset the decline in ticket revenue resulting from the implementation of the "Priyadarshini" free travel scheme for women.

Between 1.8 million and 1.9 million tickets are issued to passengers daily. The agency awarded the contract will be responsible for sourcing advertisers, as well as handling the design, installation, and maintenance of the advertisements.

The rear of the bus, side panels, and other permitted exterior areas may be used for advertising. Interior spaces such as seat backs, ceilings, interior panels, and grab handles can also be utilised. Advertisements that obstruct the driver's view or compromise passenger safety must not be installed.

Installing a passenger information system on the buses is also part of the project. Digital displays can show travel information—including the next stop—alongside commercial advertisements. A maximum of five minutes per hour may be allocated for government advertisements, awareness messages, emergency announcements, and traffic safety messages.
