YouTuber Mammu nabbed from Manjeri; Thoppi and gang absconding

KOCHI: Muhammed Mammu, a former associate of YouTuber Thoppi, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of insulting the modesty of women on social media. The arrest was made on the complaint of a woman from Manjeri.

Muhammed Nihad alias Thoppi, who is also an accused in this case, is still absconding. The case is based on the highly obscene and sexual remarks made by the channel owner Shameer, Jassy and Mammu during a live stream on the YouTube channel Mrz Shameer from 10 pm on June 10.

The live stream was done in rage immediately after the gang split. During the session, obscene content, including masturbation, was screened, which was eventually watched by lakhs of viewers. A woman, based in Manjeri, filed a complaint against this with the Malappuram District Police Chief, leading to the arrest.

Muhammed Mammu is the fourth accused in the case. Mammu was taken into custody by Manjeri police on Monday from his house in Irikkur, Kannur. The case was filed under sections of insulting femininity, making sexually suggestive remarks, and distributing obscene images. Muhammed Shameer and Shahad Mulluparamban Jassy are the other accused in the case. All are now absconding.
